The NESC-TI formalised a landmark partnership with the Division of Community Development and Social Protection (DCDSP) through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding on 30 January 2026.
This agreement marked a major milestone for vocational training in Tobago, introducing recognised, industry-aligned certification to the Division’s Vocational Skills Training Programme for the first time in over 50 years. Participants will now have access to credentials that support professional licensing and legal recognition within their respective trades.
Under the partnership, NESC-TI will provide academic oversight and quality assurance, including curriculum review and tutor assessment, ensuring training meets established industry standards.
The 2026 training cycle will launch with six priority skill areas: Air Conditioning and Refrigeration, Electrical Installation, Plumbing, Masonry and Tile Laying, Videography and Television Production, and Welding.
President of NESC-TI, Kern Dass, noted that the initiative moves the programme beyond certificates of participation to credentials that can stand alongside Caribbean Vocational Qualifications (CVQs).
The collaboration also creates clear progression pathways for graduates into advanced NESC-TI programmes, bringing world-class training directly into Tobago’s communities and strengthening workforce readiness across the island.
