Overview

This comprehensive training program provides both theoretical and practical instruction in the essential skills required of a Rig Mechanic/Electrician. Participants will gain exposure to specialized systems and equipment commonly found on drilling rigs.

The Rig Mechanic/Electrician plays a vital role in the rig’s maintenance crew, responsible for maintaining and repairing all contractor-owned equipment onboard. Key responsibilities include:

What You Will Learn

Upon completion of the programme, students will be equipped with essential mechanical skills for operating and maintaining heavy machinery and pumps, alongside a solid understanding of various rig types, platforms, and offshore equipment. They will learn to read and interpret pipework and process drawings, comprehend support utility systems critical to offshore operations, and apply safety protocols such as Permit to Work and Lockout systems. Additionally, they will gain practical experience in starting up, shutting down, troubleshooting, and maintaining drilling-related equipment, all while adhering to industry standards for quality, safety, and production.

 

Course Objectives

Upon successful completion, participants will be able to:

  • Develop a thorough understanding of mechanical skills for heavy machinery and pumps;
  • Understand various types of rigs and platforms, including their applications and terminology;
  • Read and interpret pipework and process drawings;
  • Comprehend support utility systems essential for offshore rigs;
  • Participate in Permit to Work and Lockout systems required for rig maintenance;
  • Familiarize themselves with offshore-specific equipment (lifeboats, cranes, supply boats, helicopter safety systems);
  • Perform start-up, shutdown, troubleshooting, and maintenance of drilling-related equipment;
  • Execute tasks in accordance with industry quality and production standards.
