23 Graduate from NESC’s Building Construction Programme in Mayaro

Twenty-three students from Mayaro and environs – including two women – received certificates in Building Construction Technology from the National Energy Skills Center (NESC) in May 2022.

Graduates of the hands-on programme learned the foundations of building construction over four months at the NESC’s Mayaro Campus. The curriculum covered masonry, carpentry, tiling, plumbing, steel bending and fabrication, blueprint reading and measurement, and job safety.

Taking into consideration the market needs of Mayaro and environs, the NESC developed the BCT programme to ensure that participants developed the in-demand skills for the area so that they could access employment opportunities or even start their own businesses.

At the graduation ceremony held on May 26th, Indra Ramroop-Ramkissoon urged the graduates to put their skills to productive use. “Don’t stick your skills in a draw. Nobody can take them from you. Use your skills. Practise your skills. Earn a living from your skills,” she said.

Perenco Trinidad & Tobago Ltd, one of the NESC’s longtime corporate partners, fully sponsored the training programme for residents as part of its corporate social responsibility initiatives. The programme’s Most Outstanding Student awardee, Joeneil Halls expressed his gratitude to Perenco and NESC for “helping the youths” and pleaded with both institutions to continue their investments in the lives of Mayaro’s youth.
