NESC to Provide Heavy Equipment Training to Residents of East Port of Spain

On May 8th, 2023 NESC Technical Institute and East Port of Spain Development Company Ltd (EPOS) teamed up once again to offer Heavy Equipment Operations Training to residents of East Port of Spain.
Through this collaboration, twenty-five residents will embark on a journey to become equipped with employable skills and accredited certification to create a better future for themselves and their families.
Education is the key to unlocking potential and creating a brighter future for all. By partnering with organisations like EPOS, NESC is able to extend our reach and help more people access training.
Prof. Brian Copeland Appointed Chairman of NESC Technical Institute

Emeritus Professor Brian Copeland, Ph.D., has been appointed as the new Chairman of NESC Technical Institute. Copeland was installed by NESC Technical Institute’s Board of Governors during a Board Meeting on March 16th 2023.
A career academic and innovator, Professor Copeland brings decades of experience in education to NESC. Most recently, he served as Pro Vice-Chancellor and Campus Principal of the UWI St Augustine Campus from 2016 to 2022. Prior to that, Professor Copeland held positions as Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, and Head of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. His research specialties include Digital Electronics, Microprocessor Systems Design, and Control Systems.
Professor Copeland also coordinated UWI’s Steelpan Initiatives Project, which resulted in the development and patenting of the G-Pan, a re-engineered version of the traditional steelpan, and the Percussive Harmonic instrument (P.H.I.), an electronic form of the traditional steelpan. He is Convener of the Steelpan Research Centre at UWI, a former Member of the Board of Directors at CARIRI and former Chairman of the National Training Agency.
Professor Copeland is a recipient of Trinidad and Tobago’s highest award, the Order of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago (2008), as well as a joint recipient of the Chaconia Medal Gold for his work on the development of the G-Pan.
NESC and UTT sign MoU with Canadian Polytechnic

On Monday 20th March 2023, NESC Technical Institute, Red Deer Polytechnic of Alberta, Canada and the University of Trinidad & Tobago signed a Memorandum of Understanding at the UTT Agora Campus in Chaguanas.
This agreement creates a platform of collaboration, allowing the three institutions to work together in training and certifying students from Trinidad & Tobago and other Caribbean countries. Moreover, it will be beneficial for the expansion of Technical and Vocational Educational Training (TVET) and would facilitate staff, student and cultural exchanges.
Red Deer Polytecnic President Visits NESC

On 20th March 2023, Stuart Cullum, President of Red Deer Polytechnic (RDP) visited NESC Technical Institute for the first time since assuming the role of RDP President in 2022.

NESC Participates in Guyana International Energy Conference 2023

NESC was thrilled to be part of the Energy Services of Trinidad and Tobago team that is exhibiting at the Guyana Energy Conference, held from February 14th to 17th in Georgetown under the theme, “Harnessing Energy for Development”.
The companies represented under the Energy Services of T&T umbrella included NGC Group of Companies, Paria Trading, Heritage Petroleum, the Ministry of Energy and Energy Industries, the Energy Chamber of Trinidad and Tobago (on behalf of its members) and others, all with interest in generating leads and leveraging the opportunities arising out of Guyana’s burgeoning energy industry.
68 Graduate from Perenco-Sponsored Programmes at NESC Mayaro Campus

Sixty-eight (68) students from Mayaro and its environs celebrated their successful completion of customised short courses on Thursday 12th January 2023.
The students completed courses in IT, including digital literacy, Microsoft Word and Excel, as well as courses in Entrepreneurial Skills, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration and Building Construction Technology.
NESC Mourns the Passing of Chairman Wayne Bertrand

The NESC is deeply saddened by the passing of our Chairman, Wayne Bertrand, on 14th December, 2022.
Bertrand, who retired as President of Operations at Petrotrin in 2008, had four decades of experience in the oil and gas sector. He was appointed Chairman of the NESC’s Board of Governors in 2017. As Chairman, Bertrand generously shared his invaluable wealth of knowledge, wisdom and experience to help chart the strategic direction of the NESC. His leadership style was marked by humility, congeniality and inclusion. Whether it was a member of the board of governors or a student, Bertrand always took the time to listen.
