About the Conference

Hosted and run by NESC Technical Institute (NESCTI), the TVET Conference 2026 will be held in Trinidad and Tobago from 23rd – 25th April 2026 at the NESC-TI Auditorium in Point Lisas, Couva. The conference will see the presentation of abstracts by researchers, practitioners, policymakers, industry partners, and educators on innovative approaches shaping the future of technical and vocational education and training.

The conference seeks to foster dialogue, share best practices, and showcase impactful research and case studies that strengthen TVET systems and workforce development.

Senator The Honourable Emeritus Professor Prakash Persad Minister of Tertiary Education and Skills Training

Feature Address

A distinguished academic and engineer, Minister Persad has dedicated decades to advancing tertiary education, science and engineering in Trinidad and Tobago. A graduate of the UWI, he has also served as President of UTT and held several senior academic leadership roles. His extensive experience in education policy, research and national development makes him uniquely positioned to contribute to the conversation on innovation in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET).
Dr. Taneisha Ingleton, Managing Director of the HEART/NSTA TRUST, Jamaica

Key Note Speaker

With over 18 years of experience in implementing and enforcing policies and systematic procedures to improve organisational effectiveness, she previously served as Vice-President of Administration and University Registrar at the Caribbean Maritime University and held senior leadership roles within Jamaica’s Ministry of Education, Youth and Information. An author, educator, leadership development programme designer, researcher and competency framework consultant. She has over 18 years of experience in implementing and enforcing policies and systematic procedures to improve organisational effectiveness.
Dr. the Honourable Michael Dowlath, Minister of Education

Remarks

Dr. the Honourable Michael Dowlath is an educator with more than three decades of experience in secondary education. He previously served as Principal of two Secondary Schools, leading academic development and student achievement. Minister Dowlath holds a BSc in Chemistry and Biochemistry, a Postgraduate Diploma in Education, an M.A. in Education and a PhD in Education from UWI, and has also lectured at the UWI School of Education. His participation in the NESC-TI TVET Conference highlights the important connection between secondary education and pathways into technical and vocational training.

This subtheme highlights how TVET supports economic transformation, entrepreneurship, and innovation-led growth.

Abstracts under this subtheme would examine how TVET institutions are adapting teaching, learning, and assessment to meet the needs of emerging learner cohorts.

This subtheme focuses on the role of TVET in advancing sustainability and supporting the transition to green and climate-resilient economies.
