Course Code AST

The Automotive Services Technician Diploma Programme provides persons with the skills to troubleshoot, repair and maintain modern automobiles. Students are taught to identify faulty operations using diagnostic equipment and service manuals. Graduates will possess the skills and knowledge required to diagnose, repair, overhaul or modify a motor vehicle in accordance with production standards required by industry. Also available at NESC's Goldsborough, Tobago campus.

Entry Requirements

Prerequisites:
  • Math, English and a Science Subject (including Integrated Science, Physics and Chemistry)
    OR
    NEC Auto Diesel Craftsman AND/OR Former NESC Apprentices AND any combination of CSEC Subjects and Work experience in the field as an auto mechanic
    OR
    Any other Auto and diesel training and certification COMBINED with any work experience AND any combination of CSEC Subjects
    OR
    In house or online heavy equipment maintenance specific training AND work experience in the field of auto/diesel mechanic repair and heavy equipment maintenance
  • Mature students with appropriate qualifications and experience.
  • Be sixteen (16) years or older.
  • Pass an interview.
  • Pass a Drug Test at their cost.

Registration Fee: $500 (non refundable)

Graduates will receive an NESC Diploma (and will be eligible to pursue the NESC Journeyman qualification and the Trades Professional Certificate (Red Deer College (RDC), Alberta, Canada)).

The following are the primary objectives of the Automotive Service Technician Programme:

  • Diagnose, repair, overhaul or modify a motor vehicle and maintain skills and knowledge gained through training and experience.
  • Comprehend work orders, technical bulletins and estimates, and relate the information to the job at hand.
  • Interpret warranty policy in terms of service reports, component failures and analysis records.
  • Perform assigned tasks in accordance with production standards required by industry.
